7 days and 6 nights in pure bliss, need we say more? We are beyond ecstatic to once again travel across the Atlantic to unplug and explore a stunning stretch of the unspoilt coast of Portugal, on 275 acres of coastal land 2 hours south of Lisbon. Picture this… indoor and outdoor yoga shalas for daily practice, a private freshwater lake and inviting dock to bask in the sun, oversized hammocks for taking those afternoon siestas, and a circus of goats, sheep, puppies and peacocks to walk amongst during your evening strolls. Located near the charming villages of Zambujiera do Mar and Vila Nova Milfontes in the Alentejo region, known for its long stretches of untouched coastline and white-washed villages. The ocean, with bluffs, trails and sandy coves, is a 10-minute drive or a scenic bike ride away.

In the Alentejo region, also known as The Costa Vicentina, much of the Southwest coast of Portugal is protected by a natural reserve, therefore development has stayed constrained, with traditional architecture + small farms dotting the land. The Vicentina Coast Natural Park runs about 100 km down the coast. The preserved nature has a strong + wild character here, creating landscapes of breathtaking majesty. The coast is ideal for swimming, surfing, and world-class hiking along the gorgeous sandstone bluffs. The Yoga…

Erin and Meg will offer 1-2 vinyasa yoga classes daily, accessible to all-levels of experience, all bodies and all genders. Props/mats included. Classes will range from dynamic vinyasa flow to slow flow and workshop style classes, breaking down asana and transitions to gain deeper insights into your practice. Days will be open to play and run wild throughout the beautiful grounds or explore the nearby beaches and villages.

Erin, with 500 hours of yoga training with Shiva Rea, combines aspects of all yoga explorations with playful sequences, poetry, curated music, meditation and breath work. Meg, with 16 years of practice as a physical therapist combined with her 500 hours of yoga training with Janet Stone, Darren Main and Mark Morford, integrates the eastern practices of yoga with a western medicine understanding of the body, weaved into a fun flow with groovy tunes. Together they compliment each other both Sthira and Sukha: Steadiness and Ease.

The Food…

We will be savoring three delicious farm-to-table meals each day. The food is local, with most of the produce coming from either the on-site garden or a nearby farm. Most excitingly, one special farewell dinner with extra yumminess a plenty! This food is prepared with love and exudes the local deliciousness inherent to this region.

A typical breakfast includes eggs, local fruit, Greek yogurt, homemade granola, local honey, homemade jam, slow-baked bread and a daily tonic. Lunch is often a bowl: a base of ancient grains like farro topped with avocado, roasted veggies, nori or mixed greens. For dinner, expect Indian or Japanese inspired curries, Mediterranean stews, legumes, rice, salad and dessert. There is even an outdoor, wood-fired Pizza oven.

Accommodations for dietary restrictions such as gluten free and vegan can be made.

The Exploring…

Your experience includes three amazing excursions off-site.

We can’t wait to share the beauty that awaits along the famed Fisherman’s Trail, as we are led by a local guide along the naturally stunning coastal terrain with blooming camomile, herbs, succulents of every color and unrivaled Atlantic vistas.

We will also take a day trip to the Algarve, where we will be guided through the picturesque Begali Caves, the most popular rock formation of Portugal.

Finally, we will tour a local farm and taste award winning wines with a local winemaker.

These excursions are included but you’re free to opt out and enjoy the solitude of a restful day at the ranch. A handful of bicycles will be available to us to explore the local area. We can help collect eggs from the farm’s crazy chickens, skinny dip in the pristine freshwater lake, or simply daydream in the oversized hammocks...  We’ll be just 10 minutes drive from the beach. Praia de Malhao - a fabulous untouched beach, perfect for surfing, SUP, swimming, or sunbathing. Or venture into one of the charming towns and mingle with the locals.

The Sleep…

Comfortable, clean and elegant rooms open onto an outdoor courtyard. Each room has either two single beds, that can be situated apart as a twin or close together as a double, or three single beds. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor space to chill, read a book or sit and chat. Oh, and did we mention soft sheets?

The Hosts…

Erin Harrington is a foodie turned health foodie, mother of three, extensive globetrotter throughout 6 continents, certified E-RYT 500 yoga teacher with 20 years of experience.  She’s also a certified Functional Medicine Health Coach and Integrative Nutritionist.  She believes in the power of travel to broaden our perspective, live in the moment and value experience over things.  Travel brings us back to ourselves and what really matters.

Meg Gray, founder of Urban Yoga, is E-RYT 200/ RYT-500 and has been teaching yoga 7 years. She has been practicing physical therapy for 16 years and loves to geek out on anatomy in yoga. An avid concert goer and traveler, she is passionate about discovering new music and new places, 14 countries and counting (many solo), and immersing herself in the local scenes - finding the best hikes, best tunes, best eats, best shops, and drinking all the wine.

What’s not included:
-Airfare to/from Lisbon or Faro. (We recommend booking a flight from JFK round trip into Lisbon. Then booking a separate round trip to/from JFK. We’re tracking flights and have seen them ranging around $500-600.)
-Transport to/from the retreat center. We will group people together wherever possible to share transfers. The costs for a taxi are 170 Euros from Lisbon and 130 Euros from Faro. This is shared between up to 4 people. Hiring a car is a good option as this is a great area to explore, we can put you in touch with others who may like to share a car.
-Massage appointments (available at an additional price with on-site massage therapists)
